Preserve the Deserve

The concept of reservation was enshrined in the constitution to allow the so called deprived classes to come at par with the so called privileged ones. The constitution of India allows this kind of positive discrimination in order to bring about equality of opportunity and status to the underprivileged in society.
However, with the course of time this positive discrimination took negative turns. Rather than bringing equality in society, it was successful in widening the gap between the two strata of society. One the deserving and the other reserving. As those fancy opportunities kept on adding with the reservation policy, people all the more demanded it. No! “Died” would be a better word. They died for getting reservations.
As the coming events cast their shadows before, what recently happened in haryana describes it all. How can a nation progress when it’s citizens suppress and slaughter each other to prove themselves back word.
Be it Indian Institute of Technology or be it the examination of IAS, where more than half of the country’s youth toil hard for years and years to get a position. I forgot to mention youth of “general category” and then on the other side of the sea there are students of those reserved class who on getting 30 out of 360 gets IIT roorkee and further when those students are unable to cope up with the pressure, they commit suicides and then again a controversy arises. After all, a student of backward class has committed suicide. Further extending the intensity of plight, ministers of reserved class join hands together in Rajya sabha. Moreover, reservations is now used not as an effective means of eliminating discrimination but as a vile instrument for increasing vote-bank.
There is something very wrong in our political policies. Nothing much has changed in the past 69 years, which proves that we have misdirected our energies. We have failed utterly in bringing the underprivileged at an equal footing with the rest of the society. Rather, many a times, it seems that the reservation policy tries to avenge the wrong done to the non- privileged all these years. Thats the main cause Sundar Pichai is heading google. We have successfully paralyzed a section of the society permanently and blocked their upward mobility by killing their zeal to work hard and be rewarded. Who will want to work hard if one gets an opportunity and other incentives without burning the midnight oil? Instead of encouraging this kind of lethargy, the policy should be formulated in such a way as to harness the real cream of every section of the society regardless of their caste or community for the betterment of the society.
In view of the present scenario, it is needed to keep aside the narrow vote bank politics and think truly of the betterment of the underprivileged and honestly pursue policies and programmes for their upliftment.
